67 Mustang seats (alternative seats)

Good afternoon! dne’ here with another blog. This one is about decisions in putting decent front seats in my 67 Mustang! Trying to cut corners by buying used things don’t work out very often, at least for me it seems! The seats I’m sitting in were out of a ’69 Cougar (or ’70). They did bolt right up and look good, but~

 

 

 

First let’s go back a little further in time~ whoosh~ now we’re magically back about ’08 of April thereabouts~ and I was faced with a rusted out floorboard! ay yi yi!

 

 

Now magically, the floor pans are better! I tell you it’s a chore to install these darned floor pans, but it’s part of the plan. Maybe if someone had left their windows rolled up, this may not have happened!

 

 

Now a little sound deadner with some radiant barrier, I was able to put my new carpet in for installing my “new” seats! ; )  How exciting!

 

 

See these seats? I paid 300 bucks! Were they worth it? Hell no! They looked great in the pictures, there’s one of our senses that you can’t judge without actually seeing and this is SMELLING them. They had a terrible odor, musty. I placed the seats in plastic bags with deodorizer, but only postponed the smell! 🙁

 

 

I have to keep in mind, these were original seats, kind of old. Then eventually the driver’s seat began to rip, that allowed the odor to become worse. However, I put up with the musty odor for a while, but new “other” seats were going to put in fairly soon! ; (

 

 

 

Amazingly, I talked my husband, Gary, to allow me to buy some new seats. I found these Procar Elite’s  at Summit Racing for about 600.oo for the pair!

They use a frame that’s made for my Mustang, then bolt right in.

 

 

The bolts that came with the seat that bolt it to the seat pan were not welded in, and that presents a problem since I work alone. I need the bolts to be welded in so I can just start the nuts from below the car and just tighten them up, not have someone hold the head of the bolt from inside the car!

 

 

 

So, I welded carriage bolts in place, that way they were permanently there!  If you look closely towards the right of the picture below, you can see a bolt, and there are 3 holes vertically. This allows a little fine tuning in the pitch of the seat.

 

 

Here I had the frames lined up like an assembly line to weld all the bolts into place. Henry Ford  would be proud! My first assembly line!

 

 

 

See, the tap? Those are where the seat bolts to. Each of the holes, the threads were rusty and had to be cleaned and tapped! This happens to me fairly often that I have to repair new things! ha ha!

 

 

The seats look incredible and are very comfortable! They do recline all the way back and of course forward to allow passengers into the backseat and the headrests are adjustable as well.

 

Add an aftermarket center console from Ebay, and I have a very nice show worthy interior!

If I had any complaints, one would be the seats don’t slide back as far as I would like, but when I have time, I can probably fix that, then 2, the seats do tend to sit a little higher, but not all that noticeable, I’m just being picky for you!  However, if I had bought these seats in the beginning, it would have saved money and frustration!

    Great job!!! Who makes the center console btw.?

      Hi Bryan and thanks for the compliment! It has been a while since the addition of the aftermarket console, but I found the link below with the same one that I have . It was about 230.oo when I bought it, not cheap, but is a nice addition to the stang, and I can remove it for easy cleaning. Keep googling, maybe you can find a better price and maybe by now there are different designs available! Thanks again! dne’ 😉

    When you installed the aftermarket seats in the 67 mustang is it necessary to remove the seat riser that is normally there for the regular seats?

      Hi Mark, No, you do not remove the seat riser with these seats;) These are very nice seats and compliment my Mustang, and not at too bad a price to boot! 😉
